Dec. 19th, 2003

I got my state certification in the mail today; I am legal to practice medicine in Vermont now. On the other hand, I'm coming to the conclusion that I will not be able to work with my current squad; the mountain right behind my house inconveniently blocks the radio dispatch signals. Very silly. So now after all of this emotional, technical, and legal preparation, I have to find some other squad. Plus, the current squad called me and asked me to join, now I will have to go find a squad to join. It seems awfully premeditated.

I told Calvin I'd give him a quarter for each ton of rock or dirt he moved, but he seems to have lost interest.

How have you been getting the calls thus far?

I haven't... I've only been going on ridealong calls with a paid service. With them, you sit around at the station and wait for the calls.

I wish... But I don't think so. The dispatch center that handles my squad also handles about ten other fire and ambulance services. I would imagine it would set a difficult precedent. On the other hand, my squad may want to keep me for critical things; I am the only person near the far egde of town and they had been discussing giving me an AED for quick response in cardiac cases. So maybe they can call me for those ones. They may still want to keep me for 'non-call' things; school sporting events, for example. On the third hand, I am one of their three EMTs listed on their current state service license, so maybe they will want to stretch to keep me. I don;t really want them to make a lot of special provisions on my behalf, though.

Re: special treatment
If you can come up with a BxiieSignal design, I'll chip in for a spotlight.
