We are Awesome Parents

"'Anyway, they don't always have junk food - sometimes I cook a microwave meal for them. My babies are healthy.'"

Not only is this not illegal, but the state directly supports this lifestyle and gives tacit approval by not intervening despite the weekly visit of a 'health visitor'.

I didn't want to drag socialism into this (makes me twitchy) but it certainly did occur to me that the well-intentioned government programs were enabling this present and future train-wreck.

See, now you know I'm all for the social safety net...but this lazy bink needs to be cut off from benefit and have her kids yanked away until she learns how to take care of them properly. What the heck is she "too busy" doing if she's on the dole? All that eating and smoking must be exhausting...

Part of the larger problem in the UK and here is lack of knowledge - Big Food has spent years and billions convincing us that we are too busy to cook; cooking is too hard; cooking is work - here, buy this pre-made, pre-packaged stuff from us instead! No, it's not as healthy as fresh food that you can cook, but it's convenient! And cheap! A couple generations of this, and folks believe it - cooking IS hard; cooking IS work.

Except it's not...but it's not in Big Food's interest to learn them otherwise. One WOULD think it would be in the interest of the UK gub'mint to starting teaching folks how to self-sustain...and MAKE stoopid folks like this learn by providing clear and understandable incentives: learn to feed your kids right, or no bennies for you.

I was just thinking about this today, how cooking is such hard "work." Actually, it's not. It's just that NCIS is on at dinnertime.

I had to google "NCIS" because I don't watch episodic TV any more...

It's not cooking that's the work, it's the dishes afterward!

dishes = work
That's why you have to train your husband to wash the dishes...

It's not the dishes afterward, it's loading the dishwasher that's the work.
