Dunno... Savings would be okay, right?

At least some branches of Islam are opposed to interest.

Well, by all means, let's change our culture to conform to their religious views.

heh - dunno who said that - but actually I was just finding it amusing that banks were trying to reach out to Muslims, or to avoid offending them, when it seems like the main business practices of the banks would not interest the Muslims anyway. So to speak.

Sorry, that was me, from a different machine.

I also see that as the key point; no matter what western civilization does in an attempt to appease, radical Islam will still want to destroy it.

You know, it's not like they're telling kids to EAT the piggy banks...

I don't actually understand the word "ban" in the article -- doesn't it just mean these couple of bank chains are no longer using the image? That would be more of a "we tweaked our marketing campaign" than a "ban."

They may have been using plastic piggy banks w/the bank logo as a give-away...I've seen lots of these at flea markets and such like.

So then, the news item is that some banks have decided to stop using plastic piggy bank giveaways? Hardly a "ban"...

Hardly "news" for that matter, but it's all a tempest in a shitpot anyway.

Well, it's news if you live in the UK and don't wish to have your heritage eroded in favor of a viral culture that has no respect for secular rights.

Banks no longer giving away cheap plastic piggy banks really doesn't bother me (as long as they don't just switch to some other cheap plastic gee-gaw)...the thing about the boar statute does, tho. Yeah, you gotta hate those fundimentalist types who want to impose their beliefs on everyone else...

An earlier post described the banning of pig images in a municipal office in the UK. A relatively famous pig statue is also to be discarded. In schools, books regarding pigs should not be used in the classroom.

Seems like a cultural offensive to ban pig images.
